Note: Instructors are strongly recommended to contact the UIT Desktop Services office prior to the beginning of each semester to request software, configuration changes and/or test applications.

Note: Faculty members can contact their college network manager — Jim Byford, ENG, and - Computing for Arts and Sciences, COI, — about immediate issues with any of the Discovery Park classrooms with computers managed by UIT Desktop Services. The network managers will collaborate with UIT Desktop Support to correct all issues in a timely manner.

We have configured the Windows desktops with the following configuration:

  • Dell OptiPlex 3030 All-In-One (Intel Core i5 3GHz, 8GB RAM)
  • Windows 10 64-bit OS
  • iCheckin self-service login client
  • Canvas supported web browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome
  • Adobe Acrobat XI Professional
  • SSH & SCP clients
  • VLC video player
  • 7-Zip archive tool
  • Microsoft Office 2016 Basic (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)

We have configured the Apple desktops in DP-D215 with the following configuration:

  • Apple iMac (21.5-inch Late 2013, Intel Core i5 2.9GHz, 8GB RAM)
  • Windows 10 64-bit OS
  • Microsoft Office 2016 Basic (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
  • Canvas supported web browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome

Please note: Instructors and students can expect updated software that meet CLEAR's specifications for Canvas.

Additional software on all machines in all four classrooms (unless otherwise noted) is as follows for Fall 2019: Adobe CC Basic (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Bridge); Respondus LDB; Pearson LDB; VMWare Horizon Client (for Virtual StatLab: launches Eviews 10, Lisrel 9.3, Mathematica 11/3, Matlab R2019a, Nvivo 12, RStudio 3.5 (CRAN, CRANextra, BioCsoft, Rtools), SAS 9.4 (less Text and Enterprise Miner), SPSS Statistics 25, SPSS Modeler 18.1, Stata/IC 15.1); Deep Freeze Cloud (students should NEVER SAVE TO HARD DRIVE – they should save to USB drive or other portable drive); Weka; Anaconda; Audacity; Pratt; SayMore; Transcriber; CES EduPack – D212 only; LTSpice - B142 only; PuTTY; WinSCP; Notepad++; MicrosoftVisio.

If further technical requirements are desired, professors and/or their representative staff members should determine carefully what technologies, applications and features will be needed for their environment and convey that information to the UIT Desktop Services manager as soon as possible. It is the instructor's responsibility to verify that the computer setup is as required for class and we are happy to help and consult with this!
